Every infinity pool project is different, and the price will depend on a variety of components:

• Size of the pool
• Type of finishes (ex. glass tile, ceramic tile, stones in the basin, or metal grates)
• Lights in the catch basin
• Size of the infinity edge, basin, and collector tank — this is a key factor and is often overlooked or misguided
• Additional equipment is needed for proper operation of the catch basin i.e. filter & pump

Obviously, the larger the pool is and the more features you want, the higher the price will be.

infinity pool vs. regular pool price

The cost for a 12-by-24-foot regular pool starts at about $35,000 and goes up to $50,000 or more depending on what’s included.

An infinity pool typically costs 20 percent more than a regular pool if you have the infinity edge on one side.

If you have an infinity edge on more than one side of the pool, the cost percentage increases.

A separate collector tank may also be required on your property if the catch basin isn’t big enough to support the bather load and make-up water (because of setbacks or other issues). That can make the price go up, as well.

Something else that’s a little different with infinity pools (and can play into the price) is the material you use for the exterior. With a normal pool, you don’t have to think about it because you don’t see it, but that’s not the case with infinity pools.

The overflow wall is seen (at least in most cases), and you want it to look good and stand up to water constantly flowing over it. The price will depend on what material you choose and how much of the area will be covered with it.

The most expensive option is to use tile from the edge all the way down to the surge chamber.

how pool maintenance is different

All pools require regular maintenance, but there are additional concerns and services an infinity pool needs. 

Compared to a regular pool, an infinity pool will have a higher evaporation rate, which can cause the pool to consume more chemicals. Maintaining the water level can be a bit tricky because although it evaporates more, the water level always looks the same because its pump will fill the pool up to the edge. Whoever services the pool needs to understand they should check and maintain the water levels in the surge chamber and not just the pool, according to Aqua Magazine.

Just remember: Adding one inch of water to the chamber doesn’t equate to adding one inch of water to the pool since the pool is much larger.

An infinity pool will also need a catch basin, and those require separate vacuum lines, separate pumps, and filter systems. You may have to deal with birds, as well, since they often use the infinity edge as a birdbath.

Although an infinity edge is part of the pool, it should be treated as its own thing.
